Carte/Card

Hero Arts – Fonds marins / Sea bed

Bonjour !

Hello !

It is the challenge # 18 at Tic-Tac-Toe that inspired me for this card. In fact I saw plenty of words that really spoke to me: blues and greens, aquatic friends and friendship! Luckily, in love with everything that relates to the sea, this summer I couldn’t resist the kit of July from Hero Arts with all these aquatic animals ! Till now, I had no opportunity to use them!

Actually, I had a card to do for a friend who also loves all related to sea, so I pulled out my watercolor paper, my brushes, my Distress inks and I started doing the green-blue gradient. I had seen this technique on a card of Misty Elam (Happy Ink Design)  that I found beautiful. I also invite you to visit her blog, you will see very beautiful creations.

The technique is to put a layer of color and dry it with the heat gun before applying a new layer. You repeat this process as many times as you wish and for each color.

Then I die cut the top of the watercolor paper with a Memory Box die. I must admit that it was the more complicated part since the watercolor paper is very thick. Sometimes I had to finish with a knife or scissors ! With the MISTI, I stamped the different animals. For the turtle and the little fish, I used white pigment ink on which I put a layer of Perfect Pearls to give more brillance. For the other animals and the coral, I preferred to stamp in darker tones to give the effect of depth.

I didn’t want to stamp directly the sentiment onto the watercolor image so I used a strip of Vellum on which I stamped with Versamark ink and I heat embossed with Silver embossing powder.

Finally, I wanted to add some droplets to mimic the bubbles in the water. I do not have droplets, so I tried the very ingenious technique of Susanne Vargas from Keep in Touch Cards (again I encourage you to go and see her blog, wonderful creations await you). Just make droplets with nail polish on a craft sheet and let them dry. Once dried, you use them as a normal embellishment.

And Voilà ! After pasting the watercolor paper on a double dark blue card, I have a card for my friend ! It also allowed me to try techniques that I found interesting !

  2. This is so gorgeous! The background is really striking, and I love the depth added by stamping the elements in white vs colours. What a super way of adding droplets too! Your friend will love this card 🙂
