Less is More #386 – Water

Bonjour !

Hello !

And for all those who have not seen my post yesterday I wish you a very happy new year 2019! Not only is it the first challenge of the year at Less is More, but there is also a change in the team following Sarah and Trina’s departures (their beautiful cards are already missing!). But we are fortunate to welcome 3 new teamies whose talent is already recognized by everyone: Kylie of Addicted to Stamps, Michelle of Seashell Creations and Stephanie of My-Ink-Well. I’m just so thrilled to share this adventure with you ladies ! We are also pleased to welcome the talented Vivien of Daisy-Mae’s Crafty blog, our October winner, as our Guest Designer ! Do go and visit her blog and leave her a lovely comment.

So we challenge you to play with the cue word “Water” in the form you want: ice, snow, mist, liquid … New Year, new team and new sponsor too ! Our sponsor for the month of January is Skull and Cross Buns, an English company run by Emily Fox that offers a wonderful collection of hand-carved wood-mounted stamps, artisan rubber stamps and even clear stamps !

To illustrate this challenge, I tried to make a card with the different forms of water: liquid, solid and gaseous. As I can’t illustrate the latter because it is not visible to the naked eye, I used the mist (well that’s what I wanted to represent!).

It is obvious that the first thing that came to my mind with this cue word is the sea ! Blue and waves ! So with a stencil (brand new, thank you Santa Claus !) and Distress inks, I made different levels of waves. The top one is made with a cutting die.

Then I adhered this panel over the double white card and I simply stamped the sentiment underneath !

Stamp : Simply Graphic “planche mer” – Stencil: MFT “Make waves” – Inks : Distress “Mermaid Lagoon, Tumble Glass” – Dies : IO “Sea birds” & “Ocean border”.

2/ From our home to yours

For the solid form, I chose to make this little winter scene with ice (igloo) and snow.

In my “backgrounds box”, I found this panel made with shaver cream mixed with liquid ink. The differente shades made me think to swirls in a snowstorm.

On a white card stock I stamped the igloo and the firs (from a NBUS set) with soft grey ink, then I slightly watercolored them with a Zig brush pen (thanks again Santa !). I fussy cut the whole scene.

I used embossing paste through a stencil to make the snow. Then I glued the blue panel over a double white card and the scene with adhesive foam and I stamped the sentiment. A bit of Wink of Stella (unfortunately not visible on the picture) on the snow and the firs makes the scene even more real and cold !

Stamp : Sugar Pea Designs “Have a nice day” – Brush pens : Kuretake Zig clean color “Light blue, Cool gray 1″ – Inks : Catherine Pooler reinker “Fiesta blue” (background), Brilliance “Pearlescent sky blue” (sentiment), Altenew “Limestone” – Stencil : SSS “Falling snow”.

As I told you above, I’ve had a set of Zig Real Brush Pens (so happy !) and I wanted to play with them a bit. So I had fun doing this background in blue gradient over a Watercolour paper to illustrate the mist.

I glued this background over a double card then I stamped the sentiment as well as a dandelion in grey.

Mission accomplie !

To be sure I asked hubby what it made him think and he immediately told me fog. Mission accomplished !

Stamp : Aladine “Clear graminé”, Simply Graphic “Planche condoléances” – Brush Pens : Kuretake Zig Clean Colour “Haze blue, Cornflower blue, Shadow mauve” – Ink : Memento Luxe “Gray Flannel”.

These 3 cards showcase that perfectly and I am amazed at your creativity in making these. Your first card is stunning! That summery seaside scene is beconing us all. I need that stencil now, and I adore your seagull. It’s a great interpretation of the theme. Congratulations on getting your first 2019 Christmas card done too with that second card. A gorgeous trio in beautiful blue hues, Izzy … there’s a lovely summery feel to the first with those shimmery waves and single seagul (very welcome on this frosty morning!) … the icy igloo scene is so cute and so beautifully detailed … and I love the delicacy of the silhouette against the dreamy blue watercolour! How fabulous that Père Noël knew just what to put in your stocking at Christmas … he must be crafty too!! Bises et hugs, Anita 🙂
