Less is More #390 – Horoscopes

Bonjour !

Hello !

Here we are already in March and it is a new challenge that begins today over at Less is More and the theme of this fortnight is: Horoscopes !

Who says new month, says new sponsor ! And we have a brand new sponsor with Visible Image ! Our creative guest, Jane Tyrrell from Jane’s Journals, is also a member of the Visible Image Design Team. I invite you to visit her blog and leave her a nice comment.

Voici mes cartes…/ Here are my cards…

1/ Libra (using sponsor stamps)

As I am Libra, I offered myself this set of stamps during the Black Friday sales.

The starry background was inspired by a scene from the movie La La Land I watched recently.

I delimited the top of the card with a masking tape and then I stamped and embossed the different images in white.

Thanks to the Emboss Resist technique, I blended Distress inks on top to make the sky. Then I made splatters with white acrylic paint to illustrate the stars.

To finish I stamped the dates of this sign.

Stamp: Visible Image “Zodiac Libra” – Inks: Distress “Spun sugar, Wilted violet, Blueprint sketch, Chipped sapphire” – EP : Hero Arts .

2/ Happy New Year

As you know, Chinese astrology is different from ours. Recently (February 5 to be exact) began a new year in Asia: the one of the pig.

So I created cards for my Taiwanese friends to wish them a Happy New Year.

On a red card stock I used a stencil and golden ink to make the Chinese waves. Then I adhered it on a double black card.

On a white card stock I stamped the little pig, I coloured it with markers, I fussy cut it and I glued it on the red background. Normally on the stamp, this little pig holds a heart, but I masked it because I wanted to insert this Chinese coin instead.

To finish, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with gold powder on a black card stock then I adhered it on a gold paper before adhering it on the card.

Stamp: MFT “Hog heaven” – Inks: Distress “Worn lipstick, Festive berries, Fired brick”, Delicata “Golden glitz” – Stencil : Carabelle Studio “Geométrie #1” – Markers : Promarkers “Pale pink & soft peach” .

3/ Happy New Year

For this other card I used one of the other pig images of this set.

In a mylar left-over I created a stencil of a big cloud in which I created the sky with another stencil.

I die cut the clouds and I adhered them on the sky image.

I stamped the pig on a white paper, I coloured it and I fussy cut it.

To finish, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with gold powder on a red card stock then I adhered it on a black paper. It is fixed on the card with gold thread.

Stamp: MFT “Hog heaven”, Uniko “Simply Said & simply said II” – Inks: Distress “Tumbled glass” – Stencil : MFT “Mini cloud edges” – Markers : Promarkers “Pale pink, soft peach, powder blue + blender” – Dies : Tailored expression “Swirly clouds”, MB “Puffy clouds”.

Notes

/The word “cloud” in Chinese is homonymous with “fortune” which is why it is often used in representations of lucky charms. When the motif is repeated several times, it symbolizes endless fortune.

  1. Izzy, I’m so sorry for being so late, got here eventually! I must say, your blend on that sky is absolutely stunning, such a great effect with the contrasting white. And how creative to use the Chinese new year for this one too, they’re both so cute too! x

  3. What a wonderful array of cards!! I just love that gorgeous starry background on #1. I am so in love with the second card – how incredibly clever to use the Chinese astrological calendar as inspiration. The black base with the gold and red stenciled panel is fantastic. That little pig is adorable and I love that you gave him a celebratory coin. Your third card is equally adorable and clever! I love them all!

Your middle card is luxurious in the red, gold and black and your final card has a lovely light and airy feel with those clouds. It was really interesting reading your notes too! Fabulous makes xx

  6. How fun you decided to go with the chinese horoscopes in addition to the ones more familiar to us in Europe! That pig is such a cutie and how amazing you even had a chinese coin to add to the card, just perfect! Love the dramatic color scheme of this card. Your first card is such a brilliant CAS card, I love this layout and your inking looks stunning. xxx
