Stamplorations & MB – stained glass dragonfly

Rebonjour !

Hello again !

Two posts in the same day, amazing ! If spring revives all the flora, it also revives the fauna and among other insects like the majestic dragonflies.

When I saw the challenge of CAS Mix-up and the great cards of the DT, I had the idea of this card. As far as for the design, it’s the sketch of CAS Colors & Sketch challenge that inspired me.

Update : So thrilled and honoured to be one of the Outstanding Designs over at CAS Mix Up challenge

I was especially seduced by Joanna’s idea, the hostess of this challenge, who used a background made with alcohol inks to do the technique required in the challenge.

At the end of last year I bought alcohol inks but I did not have Yupo paper so I tried on photo paper … and honestly it is not conclusive at all! But I still kept this background by telling me that one day I would use it for something !

I die cut 3 times the outlines of the wings in white paper and I glued them on top of the other. Then I die cut the background of the dragonfly into the photo paper. I adhered the wings on top and I put a layer of Diamond Glaze to make the “faux stained glass” look, and I let it dry.

I die cut the small dragonflies and I put them over the double white card. As I found that some colour was missing, I masked the double white card with masking tape, I sprinkled a few Brusho pigment and I sprayed water. Once dry, I adhered the dragonflies corner die cut.

To finish, I stamped the sentiment with silver ink and I adhered the big dragonfly. To make this dragonfly even more luminous, I put some Wink of Stella on the white borders.

A simple and quick (not to mention drying times) card to do.

  2. This is beautiful! I love the stained glass dragonfly complemented by the light use of brushos on the smaller panel. Thanks for joining us at Happy Little Stampers for our Watercolour Challenge!

  3. Your dragonfly is gorgeous, Izzy! I love his beautiful blue wings! The bit of Brushos in the bottom corner shows the corner die cut beautifully! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at CAS Mix Up!

  4. And this is why you should never throw background panels away! Especially alcohol ink ones. I struggle to know what to do with mine but like you find they lend themselves well to being die cut! And your card is so pretty, the colours are gorgeous and I love the added brusho splatters. Gorgeous Izzy xx

  5. Beautiful faux stained glass dragonfly, Izzy! Love the mix of techniques you’ve used to make this card. The colours are gorgeous and your AI piece looks gorgeous as the wings of the dragonfly. Adding the corner with the splats of colour adds so much. Great design! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! xx

  6. Wow, this is such an awesome card, Izzy! Your AI faux stained glass dragonfly looks shiny and amazing! I LOVE the colors you used. Adding the white die-cut dragonflies and Brusho pigments to the corner makes a great anchor. It’s clever that you stamped the sentiment looking like an extension to the die-cut border. Thanks so much for sharing this beauty with us at CAS Mix Up!

  7. Great combination of brusho’s, die cuts and the fabulous faux stained glass effect. Such a beautiful and unique card with a great design. Thank you for joining in The CAS Mix Up challenge with this beauty x
